Hertfordshire Constabulary has introduced a new online portal aimed at quickly locating vulnerable missing people in the area.

Safe and Found Online, launched today (16th January 2026), is designed to provide essential support for people living with dementia and military veterans who may be at risk of going missing.

Family members, carers, and friends are encouraged to register crucial information about individuals at risk on the portal. This information, stored securely, enables police to rapidly access key personal details and develop a search plan without delay.

The initiative incorporates digital forms following two nationally recognised protocols:

Herbert Protocol: A scheme that ensures police can swiftly access essential details about people with dementia to reduce the risk of harm to them.

Forcer Protocol: Created to protect service veterans, active military personnel, and reservists who go missing. It is named in memory of Lance Corporal Alan Forcer, who tragically took his own life after struggling with PTSD and depression following military service.

This new resource is expected to enhance the speed and effectiveness of missing person searches in Hertfordshire, through the secure online submission of personal details by individuals or their carers.

Hertfordshire Constabulary is urging those caring for at-risk individuals to utilise Safe and Found Online and contribute to safeguarding vulnerable people in the community.
