Getaway driver jailed for over 10 years after Luton attack on teenager
Mohammed Hamid sentenced for role in pre-planned violent assault
Mohammed Hamid, a 50-year-old man previously from Luton, has been sentenced to over 10 years in prison for his involvement in a violent attack that left a 17-year-old boy with life-changing injuries.
The attack took place on 2nd June 2022, when emergency services responded to a call at 1:20am about a teenager found unconscious beneath the railway bridge on Telford Way, Luton.
Initially thought to be a hit-and-run, it was later revealed that the boy suffered a traumatic brain injury, inconsistent with a collision.
Bedfordshire Police identified Hamid as the getaway driver during the pre-planned assault.
CCTV footage from Crawley Road car park showed the victim getting into a vehicle before walking toward Telford Way, where a BMW approached.
Four masked men armed with weapons exited the BMW, with two catching up to and brutally attacking the victim under the bridge.
Hamid, the driver, fled the scene with the men before abandoning the car in Farley Hill, Luton.
Despite medical interventions, the victim continues to suffer from severe, life-altering injuries, including significant memory loss.
Hamid, already in prison for an unrelated matter, was found guilty of conspiracy to commit grievous bodily harm at Luton Crown Court and sentenced to 10 years and nine months.
Detective Sergeant Thomas Hamm, who led the investigation, said: “This was a shocking and ruthless attack on a teenager, carried out with clear planning and intent. The level of violence inflicted has had a devastating and permanent impact on the victim’s life.
“Despite life‑saving surgery, he continues to live with severe, life‑altering injuries, including significant memory loss, and faces challenges that no young person should ever have to endure. The consequences for him and his family are profound and long‑lasting.
“We hope today’s conviction offers some reassurance to the victim’s loved ones, and to our community, that we will relentlessly pursue those who commit such calculated acts of violence.
"Our detectives have worked tirelessly to piece together what happened that night, but their efforts continue. Despite an extensive investigation, the four masked men remain unknown to us.
"On behalf of the victim, I would urge anyone that recalls anything from that time, or believes they may have information about the attack to get in touch immediately.”
