More than £13,000 has been raised in memory of a 26-year-old footballer who died following an assault in Milton Keynes.

Ezekiel Williams, from London, died in hospital on Monday (November 2) after being seriously injured in an assault in Midsummer Boulevard during the early hours of Sunday.

Thames Valley Police launched a murder investigation following his death. Three men have been arrested in connection with the incident.

A fundraiser has been set up by Ezekiel’s family and friends to help cover the cost of his funeral and give him the “send-off he deserves”.

The fundraising appeal describes Ezekiel as “a truly special son, brother and friend” and says he was “a selfless man” who enjoyed helping others.

Football was a major part of Ezekiel’s life, with the appeal saying he dreamed of becoming a professional footballer and worked hard towards achieving his goal.

He also helped young players through JOAP (Journey of a Purpose), a Christian-values coaching community supporting aspiring footballers with their development. According to the fundraiser, his training helped some players secure professional academy contracts.

Ezekiel's club, Hendon FC, described him as a “humble, unassuming and generous individual with a razor-sharp wit”.

He joined the club in September and had recently scored his first goal for Hendon against Jersey Bulls, just 10 days before his death.

The club's London Senior Cup fixture against Woodford Town was postponed following the announcement.

Police have confirmed that two men, aged 21 and 28, both from Luton, were arrested on suspicion of murder.

A third man, aged 30 and also from Luton, was arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender. All three remain in custody.

Detectives are appealing for witnesses who were in the area of Midsummer Boulevard and The Hub between 1am and 2am on Sunday (November 1) to come forward.
