Elderly woman killed during crash in Bedford

A man in his 80s was taken to hospital with minor injuries

A woman in her 80s has died following a crash in Bedford.

The collision happened on Thursday afternoon (26 March) shortly before 3pm on the A4280 St Neots Road.

Police responded to reports that a grey Volkswagen Golf had collided with a parked white Renault truck in a layby.

Emergency services attended the scene where the passenger of the Golf was pronounced dead.

The driver, a man also in his 80s, was taken to hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

Detective Inspector Craig Wheeler from the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said:

“First and foremost our thoughts are with the family of the woman who has died at this sad time.

“We are asking for anyone who witnessed the incident, has information, or may have dash cam footage of before or after the collision, to get in touch with us as soon as possible as this could help us with our enquiries.”

Anyone with relevant information is urged to contact the police to assist with investigations.
