An 81-year-old woman who died in a road collision in Bedford last week has been named by police.

Brenda Coulton, from Bedford, was pronounced dead at the scene following a collision involving the vehicle she was travelling in, a grey Volkswagen Golf, and a parked white Renault truck.

The incident occurred around 2.45pm on Thursday, 26th March, along the A4280 St Neots Road.

Emergency services swiftly responded but were unable to save Ms Coulton, who was a passenger in the Golf.

Family tribute

Ms Coulton’s family remembered her fondly, saying: “Brenda was a loving, and much-loved wife, mum, grandma, sister and auntie, and will be greatly missed by all her family and the many friends she'd made over the years.”

Appeal for witnesses

Detective Inspector Craig Wheeler from the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Serious Collision Investigation Unit emphasised the need for information to assist their investigation.

“Our thoughts remain with Brenda’s loved ones at this sad time," he said.

“We are continuing to appeal to anyone who was in the area at the time and may have witnessed the collision, or who has dashcam footage from the scene to get in touch as soon as possible, as this would help with our enquiries.”

Witnesses or those with relevant dashcam footage can contact police online at https://www.beds.police.uk/ro/report/ or call 101, quoting Operation Plaistow.
