Elstree & Borehamwood station revamped as part of Model Stations programme
Passenger satisfaction soars following station improvements
Passengers travelling through Elstree & Borehamwood station in Hertfordshire have witnessed a transformation as part of Govia Thameslink Railway's (GTR) Model Stations programme.
The upgrade aims to modernise stations, creating a welcoming environment designed to attract new passengers and enhance the experience for existing ones.
Elstree & Borehamwood, along with Gipsy Hill in South London and Enfield Chase in North London, represents the first trio of stations chosen as blueprints for this initiative.
Passenger satisfaction at Elstree & Borehamwood station has risen from 67% to 87.5% following the refurbishment.
Louis Rambaud, Chief Customer Officer at GTR, said, “With the latest Model Station unveiled at Elstree & Borehamwood, we’re showing that our new blueprint for railway stations works, with customer satisfaction immediately increasing at all three of our pilot stations and we’ve heard positive feedback from customers and staff alike."
He further explained, "Stations sit right at the centre of every community we serve, and our Model Station programme looks to build on this position through close collaboration with our valued community groups, passengers and staff alike."
The programme, championed by GTR, is part of broader plans to upgrade several stations across its 236-station network.
The improvements include interactive screens, designated zones in the booking hall for journey planning and ticket purchasing, footbridge enhancements, platform cleaning and repainting, and upgraded car park entrances.
Alex Hynes, Chief Executive of GTR's parent organisation DFTO, commented on the initiative saying, "The Model Stations programme at GTR exemplifies the modern, customer-focused railway we are building for the public."
He added, "With eight in ten passenger journeys made on one of our publicly-owned operators, there's a great opportunity to share successes from this scheme across the country as we work together to build a better railway for everyone in Britain."
Celebration events at the station have marked the completion of the recent refurbishment, attended by local officials and community leaders.
