The family of Elizabeth Hardy, known fondly as Liz, have paid tribute to her after she tragically passed away following an incident in Hitchin.

Elizabeth Hardy was 73 and from Henlow when she died on 6th October at an address in Armour Rise.

Her family described her as a kind and caring person, known for her warm personality that allowed her to easily make friends.

They shared: “Liz loved talking to people and her warm nature made it easy for her to make new friends. Liz enjoyed her gardening and liked spending time completing word puzzles and jigsaws. We will miss her always, but we know through this unbearable grief we have precious memories to treasure of happy times we had together as a family.”

Detective Inspector Adam Bridges from the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Major Crime Unit said: “Our thoughts remain with Liz’s family and friends at this very difficult time. Our investigation continues and I would encourage anyone who spoke to Liz in the days before her death to please get in touch with us.”

Douglas Hardy, 59 years old and of Armour Rise, Hitchin, has been charged with murder. His trial is set to begin at St Albans Crown Court on 15th March 2027.

Authorities urge the public to refrain from speculating about the case to ensure the upcoming trial is not compromised.
