Elderly woman dead and another injured following fatal collision in Rickmansworth

Police are appealing for information and witnesses following a fatal collision in Rickmansworth.

It happened shortly before 3pm yesterday (Tuesday 24 March) on White Hill, near Mount Vernon Hospital.

A silver Kia Picanto and a grey BMW 118i M Sport were involved and emergency services, including fire, ambulance and air ambulance, attended the scene.

The passenger of the Kia, a woman aged in her 90s died at the scene.

The driver of the Kia, a woman aged in her 60s remains in hospital, after she was airlifted with life threatening injuries.

A 22-year-old man from Watford was arrested at the scene on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, causing serious injury, driving over the limit of a specified drug and possession of cannabis. He was transported to hospital where he remains under arrest at this time.

Detective Sergeant Ben Heath, from the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Serious Collision Investigation Unit (SCIU), said:

“Firstly, I would like to extend our condolences to the woman’s family, and our thoughts are with them at this incredibly difficult time.

“Our enquires are ongoing as we continue to establish the full circumstances of the collision. If anyone has any information, or captured any dash cam footage, please report it to the police.”
