Chancellor announces railway investment for East West

The government will invest £2.5 billion to keep building East West Rail, she says

The Chancellor Rachel Reeves has announced an extra £2.5 billion to push forward East West Rail, connecting Oxford and Cambridge.

She said in her first major spending review today (11th June): "I can tell the House today, to connect Oxford and Cambridge, and to back Milton Keynes' leading tech sector, I am providing a further £2.5 billion for the continued delivery of East-West rail.

"To unlock the potential of all parts of Britain we are going further, investing in major rail projects to connect our towns and cities."

She also announced an additional £3.5 billion for the TransPennine route upgrade.
