E-scooters seized during operation in Watford
E-scooters are illegal to ride in any public place in Hertfordshire and can only be used on private land with the owner’s permission
Four e-scooters were seized during a police operation in Watford this week.
The Neighbourhood Policing Team (NPT) conducted targeted patrols in the town centre and along St Albans Road on Tuesday (18 August), in response to concerns from members of the public.
E-scooters are illegal to ride in any public place in Hertfordshire and can only be used on private land with the owner’s permission.
Hertfordshire Police says that if you are caught riding an e-scooter on a public highway, park, pavement or cycle lane, it could be seized.
You can also be reported for driving offences, which could lead to significant penalty points (if you currently hold a driving licence) and a fine.
If you’re letting your child ride an e-scooter in public, you will be the one found responsible and in turn this could affect your own driving licence.
PC Fiona Hitchcock, who coordinated the operation, said: “While some people may believe they are harmless fun, there has been a surge in road traffic collisions involving e-scooters, as well as anti-social behaviour and criminality associated with their use.
“We will continue to take action, to reassure members of the public that we are listening to their concerns.”
