Warnings issued after viral video of Chinnor Quarry swimming
Authorities are highlighting the risks at the hazardous site following an online clip drawing attention from swimmers
Authorities are urging the public to avoid Chinnor Quarry after a viral video emerged showing individuals swimming in its dangerous waters during the recent heatwave.
Warnings come amid the deaths of 11th people at the time of writing, in open water during the heatwave.

The video, posted on 27th May by a Facebook displayed people leaping into the quarry’s 'blue water' just 20 minutes from Aylesbury.
Thames Valley Police have issued a stern warning following an increase in visitors, driven by social media encouragement to visit the site.
"Chinnor Quarry is private property and entering it constitutes trespassing," police cautioned. "The quarry poses serious and potentially life-threatening risks, with hazardous water conditions and steep, unstable ground."
Fire Station Concerns
Thame Fire Station, one of the nearest stations to the quarry, echoed the police warnings by sharing their statement.
"As one of the nearest fire stations, it is our crews who attend incidents at this location almost every summer," Thame Fire Station posted. "We urge everyone to share the message that the quarry grounds are not safe."
Authorities have also reported anti-social behaviour and parking issues nearby, adding to disruptions in the community.
Local Concerns
The Crown, Chinnor, weighed in on social media to correct misconceptions about the quarry's suitability as a swimming spot.
"This is Chinnor Quarry. It is not a 'Blue Lagoon,’" The Crown stated, adding that the quarry’s water has alkaline levels as high as bleach, making it toxic.
Authorities are calling on the community to assist in spreading the safety message and keeping the area secure.
According to Thames Valley Police, "The quarry poses serious and potentially life-threatening risks."
