Officers from Thames Valley Police’s Major Crime Unit investigating a murder in Chesham have this afternoon (16/6) been given a further 36 hours to question two men in custody.

At approximately 5.20pm on Tuesday (10/6), the force received a call from South Central Ambulance Service that a man had been assaulted at the Upland Avenue junction with Upper Belmont Road.

The victim, a 33-year-old man, was taken to hospital in a critical condition, and tragically, he died on Saturday evening (14/6).

Officers have arrested an 18-year-old man and a 46-year-old man, both from Chesham, on suspicion of murder. They both remain in police custody at this time.

Senior Investigating Officer Detective Chief Inspector Peter Clarke of Thames Valley Police’s Major Crime Unit, said: “We are continuing to investigate this tragic incident and would re-assure the community that we are exploring all avenues to ascertain the full circumstances.

“I would ask people not to speculate as to the incident, but would urge anybody with any information to please call 101 or make a report online quoting reference number 43250286973.

“Alternatively, you can also call the independent charity Crimestoppers 100% anonymously on 0800 555 111.”

Buckinghamshire commander Chief Superintendent Emma Burroughs, said: “We understand how deeply unsettling the recent incidents in Chesham have been for the community.

“I would like to re-affirm that this is thought to be an isolated incident; officers have already made two arrests, and our investigation is progressing swiftly.

“You will see an increased police presence in the area, not only to gather evidence but to offer support and reassurance to residents.

“We will work tirelessly to ensure that Chesham remains a safe place to live, and again, I would urge anybody with any concerns to please speak to any officers in the area.

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank the overwhelming majority of our community for their support while we investigate.”
