A Bucks MP has spoken out after the tragic murder of Henry Nowak.

The 18-year-old student was handcuffed as he lay dying after being fatally stabbed by a Sikh man.

The killer of finance student, 23-year-old Vickrum Digwa, told police attending the scene of the stabbing on December 3 2025, that he had been the victim of a racist attack.

On Monday (June 1), Digwa was jailed for life to serve a minimum of 21 years for stabbing Mr Nowak with a ceremonial knife with a 21cm blade prosecutors said was a kirpan, which he carried as part of his religion.

Footage released by the Police, shows him pleading “I’ve been stabbed” and an officer replying “I don’t think you have mate”.

The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) said an investigation into the police force’s actions was ongoing.

Joy Morrissey, the MP for Beaconsfield, has since spoken out about the murder.

The Conservative MP said: “ Henry Nowak’s tragic murder is, sadly, stark proof that we have become a country where we no longer treat everyone as equal under the law.”

Questioning the Home Secretary, Shabana Mahmood, in the House of Commons, she added: “Does the Home Secretary agree it is time to put a stop to the political correctness that has overpowered common-sense policing, and will she commit to ending the nonsense of police cultural competency training being put ahead of protecting every citizen regardless of race?”

In response, Mahmood reiterated her belief that the police must always act without fear or favour and treat all citizens equally before the law.

“I hope the hon. Member will recognise that the vast majority of our police officers run towards danger every day to keep us all safe,” she said.

“And in the vast majority of cases they get the balance right between how they respond in a specific case and, more broadly, how they keep communities safe.

“Where there are issues, lessons must be learned; I am sure that, once the IOPC investigation has concluded, we will do that.”
