A cyber expert from Milton Keynes is encouraging parents to have open conversations with their children to help protect them against sexualised deepfake AI images online and social media.

Yesterday, Ofcom announced it has launched a formal investigation into X's AI tool, Grok, over it being used to create sexualised imagery of women and children.

Charlotte Wilson from Milton Keynes, Head of Enterprise at Check Point – a cybersecurity firm – says she is “delighted” to hear that the regulator is taking action, but X needs to “act like responsible infrastructure”.

Ms Wilson said: “You cannot ship tools that strip dignity and safety from real people, then point at the crowd when they are abused. In the AI age, responsibility sits with the platform that built it, scaled it, and chose to keep it live.”

She also has this advice for parents to help protect their children, “I think in this era where our education system is not up to date with where AI is going, it's more important that parents try and have an open discussion.

“Unfortunately, as a parent, you need to be aware of what's going on online, so you need to keep yourself informed. It's important you share carefully with your children as much as you can, with the age that they are and in an appropriate level.”

Adding: “It's important we talk to children about what can you do to limit your posts, making sure that you're keeping it to private viewing. Be careful what you share in the first place, review your privacy settings and, where possible, choose to opt out of the train the AI.”

Ms Wilson also said: “There are some places you can go for help, so if you are a victim. You can report to the police.

“If it's child content, then the Internet Watch Foundation is absolutely brilliant, and you can report to them. There's also a revenge porn helpline, and of course, Action Fraud.”
