Victims of a volunteer police officer’s sexual offences have spoken out in court about the severe impact of Gwyn Samuels’s actions, compellingly describing him as a "monster."

Gwyn Samuels, 28, from Chesham, Buckinghamshire, formerly known as James Bubb, faced damning statements from his victims during his sentencing hearing at Aylesbury Crown Court.

Samuels was found guilty of raping and sexually assaulting a child, and of raping another woman while pretending to be a 16-year-old girl online.

The first victim, who cannot be named, told the court in her impact statement about the manipulation and abuse she endured since the age of 12.

She said: "No child should ever be made to feel that way, let alone by a police officer, an adult, a trusted person," adding the experience left her with complex PTSD.

Samuels's actions, including violent assaults and psychological control through his role as a police officer, profoundly impacted her trust and mental health.

The second victim, who met Samuels when she was 18, shared her relief at miscarrying, stating it prevented Samuels from having further power over her and a child.

She described how he made her feel "unlovable" and hindered her attempts to leave, sometimes threatening her with emergency calls and institutionalisation.

The impact on both women's lives was profound, and they bravely shared their experiences to ensure accountability for Samuels’s crimes.

Investigation into the offences revealed them to have occurred between January 2018 and April 2024.

Samuels will be sentenced at Aylesbury Crown Court next Friday.
