Police are issuing advice following reports of a blue badge scam in Berkhamsted yesterday (15/04)

Two separate people reported being approached in local car parks by a black male wearing a high-vis vest, who informed them that their disabled badge was incorrectly displayed and that they would need to either register the badge or pay a fine.

One of the victims realised this was a scam and refused to engage with the male.

However, an elderly couple were tricked into entering their PIN into a ticket machine in Water Lane, before being told their card had been retained. A large amount of cash was then withdrawn from their account.

Police are continuing to try and trace the male and are advising members of the public to remain vigilant if approached by someone they don’t know, especially anyone demanding immediate payment for a fine.

They also say to always shield your PIN when using a payment or cash machine and never hand your card over to anyone.
