Bedfordshire man charged in rape case involving ex-wife bailed

The 47-year-old is charged with one count of rape and one count of possession of extreme images.

A man from Bedfordshire is among six individuals charged in connection with an investigation into allegations of sexual offences against one woman over a 13-year period.

Philip Young, 49, appeared at Swindon Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, charged with 56 separate offences against his 48-year-old former wife, Joanne Young.

The charges include multiple counts of rape and administering a substance with intent to stupefy.

The court heard that the alleged offences occurred over a 13-year period between 2010 and 2023.

Young, who currently lives in Amberley Road, Enfield but was previously from Swindon, did not enter pleas during his first appearance.

He is due to appear next at Swindon Crown Court on 23rd January 2026.

Five other men also face allegations and are set to appear at the same court.

Norman Macksoni, 47, from Sharnbrook, Bedfordshire, has been charged with one count of rape and one count of possession of extreme images.

Dean Hamilton, 47, of no fixed address, is charged with one count of rape, one count of sexual assault by penetration, and two counts of sexual touching.

Richard Wilkins, 61, of Toothill, Swindon, faces charges including one count of rape and one count of sexual touching.

Two other Swindon residents, Conner Sanderson Doyle, aged 31, and Mohammed Hassan, aged 37, have also been charged. Doyle faces counts of sexual touching and sexual assault by penetration, while Hassan is charged with sexual touching.

All five men remain on bail.

Philip Young’s ex-wife Joanne Young has waived her right to legal anonymity in connection with this case.
