Charlotte Young, aged 45 from Aylesbury, has been sentenced to three years in prison for defrauding local charities out of more than £155,000.

As Treasurer and Accountant for both the Long Crendon Community Social Club and Long Crendon Village Association, Young exploited her position over an eight-year period.

Between 2015 and 2023, Young took £125,681.92 from the social club’s account, and £29,498.41 from the village association’s account.

She was arrested on 19th October 2023, and charged on 21st October 2025, following a thorough investigation by Thames Valley Police.

Detective Constable Stephanie Mason, from the Central Fraud Unit, commented on Young’s previous conviction for fraud and her belief that she could evade detection.

“These offences spanned an eight-year period and had a significant impact on a community that had dedicated their time and effort to raising funds for charitable causes," Mason said.

Young was sentenced at Amersham Crown Court on 8th May after pleading guilty to two counts of theft by employee.

Detective Inspector Duncan Wynn emphasized the severity of the offences and the community impact, stating, “Young systematically exploited the position of trust she was placed into and stole over £150,000 of money which was raised by the community for charitable purposes."

Thames Valley Police aims to use all proceeds of crime powers available to recover stolen funds and to strip Young of any assets gained from her fraudulent activities.

The case highlights the commitment of law enforcement to pursuing and bringing fraudsters to justice, serving as a deterrent to others considering similar actions.
