A teenage boy has been arrested on suspicion of murder following the death of a man in Hatfield town centre.

The 16-year-old from Hatfield was arrested at 4am on Tuesday (25 March) at a location in London. He is currently in hospital receiving treatment. A 35-year-old woman, also from Hatfield, has been arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender and remains in police custody.

The arrests follow an investigation by the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Major Crime Unit into an incident on Sunday (23 March). Police received reports at 1.11pm of an altercation involving two males near the disused bus stop by Jetliner Way and Parkhouse Court. A man in his 20s sustained stab wounds and died at the scene.

Detective Chief Inspector Nick Gardner said: “We continue to investigate this incident and would urge anyone who knows anything about it, but who has not yet spoken to police, to contact us as soon as possible.”

Welwyn Hatfield Chief Inspector Pete Frost added: “I hope news of these two arrests will help provide some reassurance to the local community following Sunday’s incident.

“We have stepped up patrols in and around Hatfield town centre, and if you have any concerns then please do speak to our officers who are there to help. The investigation continues at pace and enquiries are ongoing.”
