Police were called to a report of an altercation on Tavistock Street, shortly after 1.45am. On arrival, a teenage boy was found with stab wounds and was taken to hospital, with serious non-life-threatening injuries.

Yesterday (24 August) a teenager was arrested, on suspicion of attempted murder and is in police custody for questioning.

Detective Inspector Jon Wheeler, from the force’s Boson Guns and Gangs team, said: “This was a brutal attack on a young boy who has received potential life-changing injuries.

“The message from us is this - knife crime and violence have no place in our communities.

“We understand that incidents like this can cause concern for the community, and we are grateful to those who have come forward to assist with our enquiries.

“Our officers are continuing the investigation and anyone with further information is asked to contact us.
