Officers are appealing for witnesses, information and dashcam footage following a serious collision on the M1.

The incident involving a grey Yamaha scooter occurred at around 3.50pm yesterday (Wednesday 18 June), near to Junction 8 (Hemel Hempstead) on the northbound side of the M1 carriageway.

Police say that for reasons unknown at this time, the scooter collided with the central reservation.

Officers from the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Road Policing Unit attended the scene along with colleagues from the East of England Ambulance Service, Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue Service and Herts and Essex Air Ambulance Service.

One man aged in his 40s was taken to hospital with life threatening injuries and one woman aged in her 40s was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

Sergeant Chris Whales from the BCH RPU said: “As part of our investigations into what happened, I am appealing to anyone who either witnessed the collision or was driving in the area at the time of the incident to please contact me.

“If you have any information or dashcam footage, this could assist with our investigation.”
