Driver in his 80s arrested after death of pedestrian in Bedfordshire

A man in his 40s died after he was hit by a car in Dunstable on Friday afternoon.

A man in his 80s has been arrested in connection with the death of a pedestrian in Bedfordshire.

The man in his 40s was hit by a car in Dunstable on Friday afternoon.

Officers were called just before 4pm to reports of a collision between a blue Saab car and a pedestrian in West Street.

Emergency services attended the collision, however the pedestrian, a man in his 40s, sadly died shortly after.

Police say his next of kin has been informed.

A man in his 80s was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and has been bailed pending further enquiries.

Sergeant Alex Ward from the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Roads Policing Unit said: “This is a deeply tragic incident, and our sincere sympathies are with the friends and family of the man who died.

“We are asking anyone who was in the area at the time and witnessed the collision or has any dashcam footage to please get in touch with us as a matter of urgency to help our investigation.”
