A man who stabbed another man multiple times in Flitwick last year has pleaded guilty to causing grievous bodily harm and knife offences.

David Butler, 61, attacked the victim during an argument at The Hawthorns on 17th July 2023, leaving him with life-threatening injuries. Emergency services were called at approximately 10.50pm.

When officers arrived, they found the victim with serious wounds. He was rushed to hospital, where his condition was stabilised.

Butler fled the scene but was later tracked down behind a bin shed by a police dog. He was carrying a bag containing weapons, items covered in blood, and his passport.

Yesterday (15th Jan), Butler pleaded guilty to two counts of causing grievous bodily harm with intent and two counts of possessing a knife.

In addition, he admitted to possessing a firearm following the police discovery of a weapon at his property during their search after the arrest.

He will be sentenced at Luton Crown Court on 27th March 2026.

Detective Constable Ellie Hall said: “This was an appalling act of violence that left the victim with devastating injuries. Thanks to the swift response of officers and the courage of witnesses, we were able to secure vital evidence and bring the offender to justice.

“I want to thank every member of the public who called 999 and provided information – your actions were crucial in saving a life and ensuring this dangerous individual was apprehended quickly."

DC Hall added that the case demonstrated the importance of reporting incidents to authorities and reassured locals that there was no wider threat.

“Bedfordshire Police remains committed to tackling violent crime and keeping our communities safe. If you ever see something that doesn’t feel right, please report it – your call could make all the difference."
