30 years since Oasis made history at Knebworth
Around 2.5 million people applied for tickets
Today marks 30 years since Oasis played their iconic concerts at Knebworth — with 250,000 fans descending on the Hertfordshire venue across two days.
The band performed on 10 and 11 August 1996, at the height of Oasis's popularity and the Britpop era.
Around 2.5 million people applied for tickets, with the shows selling out within hours.
Among those determined to be there was Italian Oasis fan Adele Vanelli, who travelled to Hertfordshire with two friends.
They did not have tickets when they arrived — but managed to buy some outside the venue for around £20.
“It was the dream, a dream,” Adele said.
“We didn't have tickets. We went there and just found outside someone selling for 20 quid, I think. We were very, very, very lucky.”
Adele went to both nights of the Knebworth concerts.
She remembers being overcome with emotion when Liam and Noel Gallagher took to the stage.
“I had tears,” she said. “Liam and Noel on stage were something like Gods. It was amazing.”
Three decades later, the memories remain vivid.
Adele describes Knebworth as her “spiritual place”, saying she has never experienced anything quite like the atmosphere of the concerts.
“Only there you can feel the connection with the people around, all the fans and also the band on stage,” she said.
Could Oasis return to Knebworth?
The 30th anniversary comes as speculation grows that Oasis could return to the Hertfordshire venue.
SJM Concerts — the promoter behind Oasis's reunion tour — has secured a licence from North Hertfordshire Council to stage large-scale events at Knebworth.
The licence allows events of up to 125,000 people, and has fuelled reports that Oasis could be considering a return to the venue in 2027. Although, no dates have been announced.
Adele took to X to ask Liam Gallagher 'who decided to come back to Knebworth next year' to which he replied 'probably ME'.
While the licence is not specifically for Oasis, and the band has not officially announced any Knebworth dates.
