17-year-old girl killed following a fatal collision in Sawbridgeworth

A 17-year-old girl has died after a car crashed into a tree in Sawbridgeworth, Hertfordshire.

The incident occurred shortly after 9.05pm on Wednesday, 25th March when the blue Ford Fiesta Megan was travelling in left Redricks Lane, collided with a tree, and returned to the carriageway.

Despite immediate response to the scene, Megan Swann was pronounced dead.

Two fellow passengers, both teenage girls, sustained serious injuries and were hospitalised for further treatment.

Megan's family has shared a tribute: "Megan was a daughter, sister, niece, granddaughter, cousin and friend," her family said, expressing their devastation at her sudden loss.

"She had a zest for life with an infectious personality. If you met her once, you would never forget her. She was doing so well with her college and was on track to pass her hair and beauty course with flying colours."

Her family added that Megan's passing has left "a deep ache that will never heal" and wished to be given privacy during this time.

Police investigations are underway, with the driver of the vehicle, a 17-year-old boy, currently arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and causing injury by dangerous driving.

Detective Sergeant Ben Heath from the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, and Hertfordshire Serious Collision Investigation Unit stated, “Our thoughts are with Megan’s family at this difficult time.

“I am appealing for any information that could help with our enquiries. Did you see a blue Ford Fiesta travelling in the area at the time?

“If you were travelling in the area and have a dash cam fitted, please review your footage as you may have captured something which could assist our investigation.”
