Bosses at Avon Fire and Rescue have shared an update on the redevelopment of Bath Fire Station.

They say their planning application has now been officially submitted - and it follows a public open day and online consultation into the idea.

Some of the reasons behind the rebuild include:

  • The current station is in a prime location to meet critical 8-minute response times
  • Improved response times to protect our world heritage city
  • Retains experienced crews & supports local jobs
  • Safer, healthier spaces for firefighters' rest and wellbeing
  • Additional appliance bays out front – including a new 6th bay for our water and animal rescue vehicle
  • Larger Bay doors to house modern fire engines
  • Better contamination control
  • Long-term investment in resilience so that firefighters can protect the city of Bath and surrounding areas
  • More efficient, lower maintenance costs
  • Net Zero in operation

On their website, the Fire Service outline some of the reasons behind the plans - which include the erection of a fire station, offices and drill tower with revised access, car parking, landscaping and associated ancillary works.

They say: "Bath is one of the oldest fire stations in Avon Fire & Rescue Service and was built in 1938.

"The fire station is due to be rebuilt, making a significant step towards modernising the facility to meet the demands of contemporary firefighting.

"The station is crewed 24/7 by wholetime and on-call firefighters.

"The station is home to three fire engines, an animal rescue vehicle, water rescue equipment including a boat and a turn table ladder."
