Oxford man jailed for life for father’s death in Bath
Christopher Monro sentenced to a minimum of 12 years behind bars
A 30-year-old man has been jailed for life after admitting to killing his father in Bath earlier this year.
Christopher Monro, from Oxford, pleaded guilty in August to the murder of his father, Peter Monro, who was 73.
He will serve at least 12 years in prison.
Emergency services confirmed the elder Monro’s death at his home on Kelston View at about noon on 11th February 2025.
Following an investigation, Monro was arrested at his home on Osney Lane in Oxford the next day by Thames Valley Police.
During proceedings, Peter’s daughter, Lara, shared an emotional statement in court. She expressed her ongoing struggle to grieve her father, describing the impact of his loss and her feelings toward her brother. Lara said Christopher, who is also known as Kit, experienced “relentless battle with severely complex mental health issues” and shared hopes that he would receive the necessary care and support.
Detective Chief Inspector Neil Meade, reflecting on the events, said:
“While today may mark the conclusion of the court proceedings, it does not end the pain and loss felt by all those who knew and loved Peter Monro.
“The past 10 months have been incredibly difficult for the entire family and they have shown remarkable resilience in such adversity. We are grateful for their support while we have investigated this tragic case.
“The information provided to us in the early stages relating to Christopher Monro was crucial in achieving this conviction and we want to publicly thank those who came forward. Sometimes little details may seem inconsequential on their own, but fed into the bigger picture they can have a huge impact on progressing investigations and bringing offenders to justice.”
