The Fire service say a barn fire which broke out near Batheaston yesterday morning (15 September) is believed to have been started deliberately.

Firefighters from Avon Fire and Rescue Service worked for over 24 hours to tackle the blaze on Bannerdown Road and bring it under control.

By 7:30pm last night the fire had been "significantly reduced" and fire service said that due to "the quantity and nature of materials stored within the building," the remaining fire would be managed through a controlled burn.

The scene has now been handed back over to the local farmer, who will continue to manage the fire locally.

The fire service say a fire investigation has been carried out and the cause of the fire is "believed to have been deliberate."
