Avon Fire and Rescue attend 14 blazes in one day
The service says several of those fires were started deliberately
There have been reports of out of control bonfires and barbeques across our region this week, destroying acres of wildlife habitats and young plants.
Fire crews are urging us to be extra careful as we reach the end of the summer - one which, across the UK, is seeing experts predicting as being the hottest on record.
It comes after the force have confirmed they attended more than a dozen fires on Monday (25/8).
The service is calling on people to avoid open flames of any description in dry grass or woodland and to ensure cigarettes and barbeques are fully extinguished before discarding.
In a statement, the emergency service said: "We attended 14 fires on Monday (between midnight and 4pm), this includes:
- Horfield, Bristol: A fire in the garden of a residential home affecting the garden and fencing – accidental ignition
- Hengrove Way, Hartcliffe: Rubbish bags alight – deliberate ignition
- Haymarket, City Centre, Bristol: Rubbish bin alight – deliberate ignition
- Stapleton Road, Bristol: Rubbish big alight – deliberate ignition
- Henacre Road, Lawrence Weston: and wood alight – deliberate ignition
- Jasmine Lane, Claverham: Out of control bonfire – accidental ignition
- St Philips Road, Bristol: Small grass fire – accidental ignition
- Behind Robertson Road, Easton: Grass fire – accidental ignition
- Cornwallis Avenue, Weston-super-Mare: Garden fire affecting house – accidental ignition
- Hengrove Way, Hartcliffe: Grass fire – accidental ignition
- New Cheltenham Road, Kingswood: Out of control bonfire – accidental ignition
- Guy Morgan Park, Stoke Gifford: Grass fire – accidental ignition
- Bristol Road, Cromhall: Out of control bonfire – accidental ignition
