Avian flu detected in poultry in Somerset

Avian influenza H5N1 has been detected in poultry near Dulverton, Tiverton and Minehead, Somerset.

The disease is known more commonly as bird flu.

The Animal Plant and Health Agency has imposed a 3km Protection Zone and 10km Surveillance Zone, affecting a wide area of farms, shoots and smallholdings across West Somerset.

The cases were confirmed on Monday.
