Woman, 73, seriously injured after North East crash between car and lorry

She was taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary for treatment, while the lorry driver was uninjured.

A 73-year-old woman has been left seriously injured following a crash in Aberdeenshire.

Emergency services were called out to the collision involving a red Ssangyong car and a Mercedes dropside lorry at around 9.20am today on the A980, between Torphins and Banchory.

The woman was taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary for treatment, while the 36 year old lorry driver was uninjured.

At the time of writing, officers said the road remains closed to allow for an investigation to take place.

Police Scotland have thanked those who stopped to help at the scene and are appealing to the public for information about the crash.

A spokesperson said: "Road policing officers are appealing for information following a serious collision in Aberdeenshire.

"About 9.20am on Friday, 10 April, 2026, we were called to a two-vehicle crash on the A980, Torphins to Banchory road, near Kennerty.

"The collision involved a red Ssangyong car and a Mercedes dropside lorry.

"The driver of the car, a 73-year-old woman, was taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, where her injuries are described as serious.

"The driver of the lorry, a 36-year-old man, was not injured."

Sergeant Sarah Ritchie, North East Road Policing Unit, added: "I’d like to thank members of the public who stopped to assist at the scene.

“Our enquiries remain ongoing to establish the full circumstances and I’d ask anyone who witnessed the collision or has dash-cam footage which may assist, to contact us on 101 quoting incident number 0819 of 10 April, 2026."
