A knife attack on an Aberdeen schoolgirl by an older pupil has been referred to the Children's Reporter.

A sheriff's decided the 15-year-old girl's case shouldn't be examined by an adult court.

The teenager had admitted assaulting a twelve year old girl at Hazlehead Academy on April 24th last year, by repeatedly striking her on the head with a knife, leaving her scarred for life.

The victim was rushed to Royal Aberdeen Children’s Hospital and later discharged.

In a statement via law firm Digby Brown, the father of the injured girl said: “Schools should be safe environments and no parent, child or teacher should ever expect to have to deal with the prospect of attacks with weapons.

“Our daughter was significantly affected by this attack and her recovery remains our ongoing priority.

“We are at least pleased to see the pupil who attacked her has admitted the wrongdoing at the earliest chance and we now trust officials to take all appropriate steps to help keep our schools safe.”
