Tribute service for Royal Navy crew members killed in Devon helicopter accident

The community gathered in Okehampton for a special memorial on Sunday

A memorial service has taken place in Okehampton for three Royal Navy personnel who were killed in a helicopter crash in Devon.

The event at All Saints Church honoured Lieutenant Commander Chris Gayson, Lieutenant Lily-Mae Fisher, and Petty Officer Owen Green, who lost their lives when the Royal Navy's Merlin Mk4 helicopter crashed during a training manoeuvre.

The fatal crash occurred on 3rd June and has led to an outpouring of tributes across the region.

Lieutenant Commander Gayson, aged 42 and originally from Somerset, Lieutenant Fisher, aged 31 from Surrey, and Petty Officer Green, aged 24 from Hampshire, were stationed at RNAS Yeovilton in Somerset.

Reverend Claire Reylonds led the special memorial service, featuring prayers and the lighting of candles to remember those who died.

All Saints Okehampton Parish Church has also scheduled additional services for those wishing to pay their respects.

These services will be held on Sunday at St Thomas a Becket, Sourton at 9:30am, the Church Hall for a Café Church at 11:00am, and a reflection at All Saints Church at 2:00pm.

Somerset County Cricket Club observed a minute of silence at the CACG as a tribute to those tragically killed in the accident.

An investigation by the Defence Accident Investigation Branch is now underway.
