Trailer and start date released for Pride & Prejudice Netflix series
Starring The Crown's Olivia Colman and Emma Corrin
Last updated 2 hours ago
Following the huge success of the 1995 BBC TV series and 2005 movie of the same name, Netflix announced a reboot of Pride & Prejudice was in production last year! Starring The Crown's Emma Corrin as Elizabeth Bennet and Jack Lowden (Slow Horses) as Mr Darcy, the period romance series will also feature Academy Award winner Olivia Colman as Mrs Bennet.
Based on the esteemed book by Jane Austen, the new series will be made up of six episodes, and has been written by best-selling author Dolly Alderton, and directed by Heartstopper's Euros Lyn.
When does it come out?
The series will arrive on Thursday 3rd December 2026.
What channel is it on?
Pride & Prejudice will air exclusively on Netflix.
What is it about?
Netflix's official synopsis reads: 'When wealthy bachelors arrive in their neighbourhood, the five Bennet sisters must navigate love, family, and society’s expectations to secure their futures. Jane falls for the charming Mr Bingley, while Elizabeth clashes with his proud friend Mr Darcy – but unexpected encounters and family scandals force Elizabeth to reconsider her feelings and discover the true nature of love'.
Writer Dolly Alderton explains: “Pride and Prejudice is such a timeless story because of the emotions in the book; they are as pertinent now as they were in 1812. Embarrassment of your family, fear that you’re going to get left behind, fear that the world is not going to be a safe place for your children as it was for you, mortification that you judged someone incorrectly or that you had been misjudged. We go to that book to see our hearts reflected in it.”
Is there a trailer?
The official full length trailer was released at 3pm on Wednesday 28th October 2026.
Lizzy (Emma Corrin) and Jane (Freya Mavor) open the trailer on the roof of Longbourn, debating the dilemma that defined Austen’s era and still resonates today. Dolly shares: “I always knew that I wanted it to be the opening line of the trailer, not only because I think it’s so relatable to women now who are looking to find the right partner and looking to find love, who are resentful of how much time it takes over their schedule and their brain, but also because it captures how much Lizzy is a character who’s working things out as she goes along.”
Mrs Bennet, played by Olivia Colman, is afforded the privilege of uttering Jane Austen’s immortal line “It is a truth universally acknowledged’. Dolly shares that she chose Mrs Bennet for that line “because it’s the central drama of her story, it’s all she's thinking about it’s a preoccupation that any time a single man comes into her orbit she's thinking this might be safety for all of my daughters this might be salvation not just for one of them but for all of us so the fact that this is so in her mind all the time felt that it had to be her line. It was most natural for her to take it because it’s all she thinks about.”
