The Coastguard has called off it's search for a missing person in water off the Yorkshire Coast.

It's after two people died after getting into difficulty in Withernsea yesterday afternoon.

In a statement, the Coastguard said;

"After resuming shoreline searches in Withernsea for one missing person today (3rd January), HM Coastguard stood down its extensive search effort this afternoon.

Two bodies were recovered from the sea yesterday following a major search operation.

A 67-year-old man and another person, whose gender or age has not yet been confirmed, were pulled from the water by rescue teams following extensive searches at Withernsea.

Searches for the third person resumed this morning but were hampered by the heavy snow and freezing conditions.

Humberside Police were first called to Central Promenade at around 3.15pm yesterday (2 January) following reports of concern for safety for people in the water.

HM Coastguard, Yorkshire Ambulance Service and Humberside Fire & Rescue were also sent to the area.
