Man dies after car crashes into tree following police pursuit in Bedfordshire
The 41-year-old driver failed to stop for officers in Dunstable before the Audi left the road near Caddington
A man has died after his car hit a tree following a police pursuit, Bedfordshire Police said.
Officers in a marked police vehicle were informed of a grey Audi driving without its lights on in High Street South in Dunstable shortly before 10.30pm on Saturday, according to the force.
The 41-year-old male driver failed to stop for police and a pursuit ensued as the Audi drove off on the A5183 towards Markyate.
At around 10.37pm, the Audi left the road and hit a tree near Caddington, police said.
No other vehicles were involved in the collision.
Officers conducted first aid and were supported by emergency service, but the driver was pronounced dead shortly before 11.30pm.
Following the incident, Bedfordshire Police made a mandatory referral to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC), which has since launched an investigation.
