Two bailed over death of one-year-old girl in Warwickshire

Investigations are continuing in Atherstone

A man and a woman have been bailed following their arrest after the tragic death of a one-year-old girl in Atherstone.

Emergency services responded to the incident at around 11.50am on Friday, 11th September, where the child was reported in cardiac arrest at a home on Long Street.

Despite paramedics' efforts, the child passed away.

A 19-year-old woman and a 21-year-old man, both from Atherstone, were arrested at the scene on suspicion of child neglect and were later further arrested on suspicion of causing or allowing the death of a child.

Detective Chief Inspector Martyn Kendall from the Major Investigation Unit commented on the incident, saying: “This tragic death has understandably caused a great deal of shock and concern in the local community. The two suspects arrested have now been bailed with strict conditions. We are waiting for a post mortem which will help us shed more light on the circumstances leading up to her death.”
