A teenage boy has died following a collision involving two cars in south Bristol, with a 17-year-old arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.
Emergency services were called to the A37 Wells Road, at the junctions with Airport Road and Wootton Park, shortly after 4am on Sunday, October 25.
The collision involved a white Nissan Juke and a black Audi S3. It followed a brief pursuit involving an unmarked police vehicle and the Nissan.
The teenage boy, who was travelling as a passenger in the Nissan, died at the scene.
Three other people were taken to hospital with injuries not currently believed to be life-threatening. Two were teenage passengers in the Nissan, while the third was the driver of the Audi.
Police later arrested a 17-year-old boy at a residential address on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. He was taken to hospital for assessment before being discharged and remains in police custody.
Specialist officers have informed the family of the boy who died and are providing support.
Avon and Somerset Police's Professional Standards Unit has been notified of the incident, and a mandatory referral has been made to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) because the death occurred following police contact.
The investigation remains in its early stages and is being overseen by a detective inspector from the Major Crime Investigation Team, pending any decision by the IOPC.
The road was closed while officers investigated the collision and vehicles were recovered. It reopened shortly after 4pm.
Police are appealing for witnesses and anyone with dashcam footage or other recordings that could assist the investigation to come forward.
