Football: Sule amongst a number of departures at Glentoran

Glentoran have announced the departure of five players from the club at the end of the season, with Fuad Sule the most high-profile name.

The former Larne midfielder will leave The Oval when his contract expires, as will Wassim Aouachria, Finley Thorndike, Jay Donnelly and Niall McGinn.

Donnelly enjoted a successful loan spell in the second half of last season with Championship side Newington, helping the North Belfast club stay in the second tier. Former Northern Ireland international McGinn, now 37, spent the season on loan at Scottish Championship club Greenock Morton.

THe club have also announced that defender Patrick McClean has been placed on the transfer list, saying that 'discussions are ongoing with interested clubs'.

A club statement read: "We would like to thank each of them for their contribution to Glentoran and wish them every success in the next chapter of their careers.

"Further updates will be announced in due course as part of the club’s ongoing strategic squad planning."

The Glens missed out on European football next season after defeat to Cliftonville in the play-off semi-finals. Declan Devine's side also lost to the Reds 1-0 in the final of the Bet McLean Cup at the start of March.
