Carrick Rangers have won the County Antrim Shield and lifted their first senior trophy in 33 years.

Stephen Baxter's side beat Cliftonville 4-2 on penalties in last night-s dramatic final at Seaview.

The score at the end of normal time was 1-1 after goals from Reds' forward Ryan Curran before super-sub Adam Leckey equalised 10 minutes before the end to take the game into extra time.

Then, after skipper Luke McCullough, Jimmy Callacher and Danny Gibson converted their penalties, Aidan Steele stepped up and slotted home the crucial spot-kick.

Afterwards, speaking on Carrick's YouTube channel, Baxter said it was a special moment for everyone associated with the club.

"I am thrilled for everyone," he said. "When you prepare a team to come and play in a big final it is a very very difficult thing to because there is always going to be only one winner and one loser.

"And when you lose a big cup final it can be a heart-breaking event."
