As we look forward to the weekend, everyone's longing for sunshine and blue skies of last week.

Sadly, forecasters predict that this weekend will be dominated by a mix of warm, humid air and low pressure, leading to a heightened risk of thunderstorms and heavy downpours.

The Met Office has said that Northern Ireland, particularly in the east, is likely to enjoy a largely fine day.

Looking towards the final day of The Open, Sunday could see sunshine, but with the mix of heavy/thundery showers.

Take a closer look at Northern Ireland's five-day forecast 👇

This Evening and Tonight: Mostly cloudy, often dry but a few showers drifting around, perhaps the odd heavy one later in the night. A few clear intervals too. It will be a mild night with light winds. Minimum temperature 14 °C.

Saturday: A rather cloudy start then brightening up with some sunny intervals. Scattered heavy showers then breaking out by the afternoon, mainly in the west. Warm with light winds. Maximum temperature 22 °C.

Outlook for Sunday to Tuesday: Sunny spells and heavy, possibly thundery showers on Sunday. Further showers or longer spells of rain at times on Monday and Tuesday.
