Northern Ireland could see snow this week as colder air intensifies

The Met Office has forecast further spells of rain, wind and snow this week, as colder air intensifies across northern parts of the UK.
The forecaster explains: "Over recent weeks, we have seen a persistent combination of cold air to the northeast and vigorous Atlantic systems pushing up from the southwest.
"This week follows the same theme, bringing further spells of rain, hill snow, and chilly winds, particularly across northern and eastern areas."
The rain is expected to impact parts of NI on Wednesday, with pockets of snow over the Sperrin Mountains.
On Thursday, the combination of cold air and winds blowing in from the North Sea will keep temperatures feeling particularly chilly in the northeast.

This Evening and Tonight: Widespread cloud and outbreaks of mostly light rain spread north through the evening and overnight, this falling as snow over the hills. Occasionally strong easterly winds around the coast. Minimum temperature 2 °C.
Wednesday: Cloudy with outbreaks of rain in the morning. This gradually clearing north to become mainly dry but still quite cloudy from mid-afternoon. Occasionally strong easterly winds around the coast. Maximum temperature 8 °C.
Outlook for Thursday to Saturday: Staying largely cloudy with some outbreaks of rain at times, strong easterly winds along the east coast. Drier with some brightness possible on Thursday.
