Police are investigating an armed robbery in east Belfast.

It happened on Sunday (July 27th) on the Ballygowan Road.

A PSNI spokesperson said: "Police received a report around 10.15pm that two men had entered a shop on the Ballygowan Road. One of the men was armed with a wooden mallet. They made off with a sum of cash from the tills, leaving the female staff member shaken, but thankfully physically unharmed.

"Both suspects are described as being of heavy build, with one reported to be wearing a blue hooded top and shorts, white socks and black sliders, and carrying a green shopping bag. The second suspect was described as wearing a grey hooded tracksuit with white socks and no shoes.

“We believe that the suspects both approached from and left in the direction of Brentwood Park. We would appeal to anyone who saw anything, or who captured CCTV or dash-cam footage in the area at the relevant time, to contact police."
