A man has been taken to hospital after being shot in the leg and beaten with iron bars in County Antrim.

It happened after armed, masked men entered a house in Dervock in the early hours of this morning.

PSNI Detective Inspector Ballentine said, “Shortly after 12.30am, police received a report that four masked men, one armed with a handgun and the others with iron bars, had entered a house in the Stratham View area.”

“The men struck the victim on the head and arms with the bars before shooting him in the leg. They then made off in a Toyota Yaris, which was later found burnt out in the Burnquarter Road.”

“Officers along with colleagues from the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service attended and the man was taken to hospital for treatment for his injuries.

“Three other people who were in the house at the time were uninjured but left badly shaken by their ordeal.”

“I am appealing to anyone who may have seen anyone suspicious in the area or with CCTV, door-bell or other footage that could assist with enquiries to contact detectives using our witness appeal form at https://reporting.psni.police.uk/appeals, quoting reference 21 of 27/10/26, or to call us on 101.”
