More than 50 firefighters have battled a large blaze at a meat producer in County Down

They were called out to the fire at sheds at Corries Meats on Crossnamuckley Road in Newtownards yesterday evening.

In an update on Sunday morning, NIFRS said, "The large fire in a number of sheds on the Crossnamuckley Road, Newtownards has now been brought under control."

"The cause of the fire has not yet been determined. NIFRS resources have now left the scene."

In a statement the Corrie family's thanked emergency services and said everyone's “safe and accounted for”.

They said “Our family confirms a fire at one of our business properties; all individuals are safe and accounted for despite the devastation caused."

“We thank emergency services and are working with authorities while supporting our people and operations.”
