Victim of Newry road collision named as police make appeal

The PSNI has confirmed the man who died following a road traffic collision in Newry on Wednesday afternoon was John O'Brien - he was 67.

Police say enquiries are ongoing and anyone who witnessed the collision is asked to contact detectives.

The accident happened in the Albert Basin area of the city when the victim was struck by a lorry.

Police are also asking people not to share a distressing image from the scene that has been circulating.

A PSNI spokesperson said: "Police are aware of a distressing image being circulated from the scene of this road fatality and request that the sharing of this graphic scene image to cease immediately, out of consideration for the family impacted.

"Persons found to be sharing the image may be committing the offence of improper use of public electronic communications network.

"If anyone has information about the originator, or this image being disseminated, please contact Police on 101."
