A man in his 30s is in hospital after being assaulted in North Belfast.

Police say they received a report of an altercation in the Castleton Gardens / Limestone Road area at 4:30 this morning.

The victim alleged that a number of men, one of whom was armed with a weapon which he believed to be a screwdriver, approached him and assaulted him.

Local policing Sergeant Green said: ā€œPolice received a report that a man had been injured following an altercation in the Castleton Gardens / Limestone Road area at approximately 4.30am on Saturday, 1st June.

ā€œThe victim, aged in his 30s, alleged that a number of men, one of whom was armed with a weapon which he believed to be a screwdriver, approached him and assaulted him.

ā€œHe was taken to hospital for treatment to injuries which, at this time, are not believed to be serious.

ā€œOur investigation is underway to determine the circumstances and a motive for the assault.

ā€œI would appeal to anyone who may be able to assist with our investigation or has CCTV, dash-cam or mobile phone footage, to contact us on 101, quoting reference 308 of 01/06/24."
