A traffic officer is in hospital with serious injuries following a head-on collision with a 'stolen' car on a busy road into Manchester city centre.
The crash happened on Hyde Road at around 03:30BST on Tuesday 22 April, with the road still closed.
It is understood the officer was involved in the pursuit of a vehicle, which police believe had been stolen from Stockport.
Greater Manchester Police said the driver "ran several red lights" and reached speeds of 110mph before the crash happened.
A 21-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of driving with excess alcohol, drug driving and taking a vehicle without consent. He remains in custody for questioning.
Several roads in the area were closed as a result of the incident.
Chief Inspector Michael Parker, of GMP's Roads Policing Unit, said: "Our drivers are highly qualified and undertake regular and rigorous training.
"However, this incident shows the dangers they face each and every day to keep our roads safe.
"We constantly patrol the road network to catch those who are intent on breaking the law, whether that be dangerous driving, driving under the influence or having no insurance."
An investigation is under way and footage is being reviewed - anyone who saw the incident or has dashcam or doorbell footage should call police on 101 quoting incident number 292-22/04/2025.
