Police certain honeytrap pair targeted other men and urge them to come forward
Police are appealing for anyone with information to make contact
Detectives believe there are further victims of honeytrap pair Adina Mihai and Madalin Dumitru and urged them to come forward.
The Romanian couple targeted men who responded to adverts for paid sexual services.
They would travel to their homes and drug them with a powerful sedative to steal cash and jewellery from them.
Over a 12-month period, four men were targeted and two – Malcolm King and Gary Mouat – died after drinking wine spiked with GBL.
The two defendants were jailed following a joint investigation by the Thames Valley and Gloucestershire forces.
The cases were linked after Thames Valley officers issued an all-forces bulletin sharing details of Mr Mouat’s death in Oxfordshire in 2025.
Detective Inspector Adam Stacey, of Gloucestershire’s major crime investigation team, urged anyone to come forward if they believe they are victims due to the large gap in offending.
“We worked with the National Crime Agency and other forces in efforts to identify whether there were other victims that may have died as a result of their crimes,” he said.
“There may well be other victims who have survived such druggings, or other targeting from them, but there have been no other homicide victims that we’ve been able to identify.
“We did identify some living victims during the course of our investigation, some of which featured in our case, others didn’t feature, so we know there are other victims out there.
“We do fully understand the sensitivities around why a victim might not want to come forward to us.
“The personal circumstances and the nature of what goes on is very obvious, but we are here to support those individuals, and I would encourage those victims to come forward.”
On the pair’s offending, he said there was “a very long time period” between Mr King’s death in Gloucestershire in August 2024 and Mr Mouat’s in July 2025, adding: “We needed to understand what happened between that, so they would have no doubt been continuing with their targeting of men during that period.”
Detective Inspector Michael Roddy, who led the investigation for Thames Valley Police, said: “Clearly, the period of time that we have concentrated on has been between the death of Malcolm and their arrest at the end of July last year.
“But I’m almost certain that there will be other victims that they have taken advantage of, whether that’s drugged or through other means, that have not been reported.
“I take this opportunity to encourage those people to come forward.
“I hope that the way that we have treated this investigation… will show them how seriously we will take it.”
Detectives issued a bulletin to all other police forces in the country to share the intelligence about Mihai and Dumitru in case any other unexplained deaths were linked, but no others have been found.
They worked with the National Crime Agency and other police forces to understand the extent of the offending.
Mr Stacey said: “There was painstaking inquiries made in terms of trying to establish their movements, trying to place them at the different scenes, and that proved to be very, very successful.
“It was clear that they were targeting men, not only in order to drug them, but they were also looking to get money from them in other ways as well.
“They no doubt exploited these men as vulnerable individuals in their positions.
“I’m just very happy and satisfied that we were able to get them and take them off the streets.
“Their actions are inherently dangerous and I’m very glad that they can no longer carry on.”
Mr Roddy said Mihai and Dumitru were dangerous because they were reckless.
“We know almost immediately after Gary, they visited one of our living victims and drugged him,” he said.
“Soon after that, one of our other victims as well. The issue here is that they are administering a drug that they have no comprehension of what it might do to an individual.
“You only need a small amount of GHB to overdose. They were administering it to different men of different ages, sizes, builds, with no understanding of the correct dosage.
“Then the position that they left these people in, she made sure that they were alone in their houses, knocked them unconscious and then left them before they came to.
“Their model was to drug these men, knock them unconscious, steal from them and leave them in embarrassing circumstances and hope that they would never report it to the police.
“Sadly, in two of those cases, those men never came round.”
