Cannabis worth £1.5 million found in vehicle on the M5 motorway

A man has appeared at Birmingham Crown Court after cannabis worth one and a half million pounds was found in a vehicle on the M5 motorway.
West Midlands Police officers made the discovery during a roadside check in Worcestershire on Wednesday 4th February 2026.
54-year-old David Griffiths from Newport in Gwent has been charged with possession with intent to supply.
A West Midlands Police spokesperson said:
"We’ve charged a man with possession with intent to supply cannabis after officers from our Road Crime Team seized drugs from a vehicle.
"David Griffiths, aged 54, from Newport, Gwent, appeared at Birmingham Crown Court on 6 February for a first hearing.
"Officers from our Road Crime Team stopped a vehicle on 4 February on the M5, between Junction 7 and 8, seizing a total of 200 kilos of cannabis with a street value of £1.5 million.
"We're currently running Operation Target which sees us take a defiant stand against a range of serious and organised crime offences.
"Officers use local intelligence, seize goods, carry out warrants and target offenders as part of Op Target’s ongoing crackdown against serious and organised crime."
